welcome & thank you for stopping by and for your patience as you navigate your way around!
this site is brand-new and still very much under construction, as i continue to migrate from a previous one while also attempting to build something fresh, current, relevant, and useful for all of us.
i'm a BlaQueer and multilingual literary artist writing primarily in the creative nonfiction genre, drawing inspiration and courage from critical and witness ethnography, social justice journalism and social history, and especially subaltern womanist/feminist/queer literatures.
my work has appeared in books, magazines and journals, and news outlets, mostly compensated by "exposure"; this is something i'm seeking to change with this new site.
i'm also the unemployed caregiver of an octogenarian spanish-monolingual single mom with late stage multiple myeloma, ckd, and unbelievable will and strength who, unlike me, survived the first covid wave in the spring of 2020 seemingly unscathed, thanks to immunotherapy. when i became sick concurrently, the virus knocked me around viciously for months until and through each of the four vaccines, turning me into the long hauler-- in physical therapy and battling intermittent mysterious bodily symptoms--that i am to this day. but make no mistake: i'm better and grateful, just not yet the person i used to be, if i ever will.
my art is driven by a commitment to social justice, liberation, and disruption of oppressive systems of power. in the words of the indomitable author arundathi roy, "Another world is not only possible, she is on her way. On a quiet day i could hear her breathing."
i have studied creative writing a bit through workshops, classes, conferences, and reading, and still dream of one day being able to afford the pursuit of a master's degree in creative nonfiction writing. i currently hold one in sociology and half of another in applied linguistics for english teaching.
if there's anything i have gained from my own personal pandemic, not to mention our communal one through familial and global kinship, as well as proximity to mortality through my mother's longtime illness is an appreciation for time, for living, for the urgency and power of art for transformation of lives and the world itself. hence, my writing and my commitment to continuing to develop and use my voice to tell our stories are not elite endeavors and in these times they feel more timely and more important than ever.
Thank you for joining me on this journey!
